The Benefit

This program will benefit the students by teaching them essential leadership skills and how to use the various educational areas of science, math, and social skills and apply them to a project that they will see from the onset to the completion of their films.

Program Description

This program will consist of teaching the learners the science, math, and social skills behind creating their own films.

  • The science: the technical aspects of using cameras, lighting, and audio to create/bring your vision to life.

  • The math: the budgeting side (time, funds, resources) in producing your own film.

  • The social skills: how to recognize the importance of the various team members of the production team, how they work together, as well as lead the team through a project. In addition, interact with community leaders, organizations, restaurants, stores, as well as local residents to assist in booking locations to use for filming and to possibly be included in the film projects.

All these aspects will come into play during this 5-month program. Each learner will take on/learn the various roles of the production team during this program.

The learners will be trained and instructed by award-winning filmmaker and actor Marcus A Siler of Theatre and Me, LLC. The goal is to create a film that shows the inspirational depth of their community and those who reside in it. At the end of the program, there will be a one-day celebration screening of the films for friends, family, community members, and local government officials to attend. All of the completed films will be aired on the PhillyCam local channel (Philly) and streamed live on their website, www.PhillyCam.org.
